Ecumenical Charity

The Liverpool Seafarers Centre is a partnership between The Roman Catholic Apostleship of the Sea (Liverpool) and The Anglican Mersey Mission to Seafarers. It helps 50,000 seafarers each year visiting Merseyside ports. In September 2019, LSC was awarded the world’s best seafarer centre at the International Seafarer Welfare Awards (ISWAN) as nominated and voted for by mariners themselves. Liverpool Seafarers Centre also won the Positive Impact Award at the Mersey Maritime Industry Awards 2020 in March.

The charity’s work involves visiting vessels to integrate with the crew, offering a listening ear, to help combat isolation and loneliness and providing places ashore for seafarers to relax away from their working environment.

COVID-19 Impact

The current crisis has left large numbers of seafarers in a worrying and precarious position, with all vessels on lock down and no shore leave permitted. Travel and quarantine restrictions mean many are unable to return home when their contracts end, leaving them thousands of miles from home and their families.
